NIEUWSBRIEF

The year 2007 is almost over and it is always a good thing to look back.
We have been blessed tremendously this year. Thanks to our sponsors we could purchase a new school bus. We also bought another piece of land (haschaa). Girls who can live on their own, may live here or families that are united again or about to be united, can be offered a place to live on this haschaa.

Our old haschaa is completely renovated. We had showers and toilets installed.
People from Holland came to Mongolia with a minibus filled with school supplies, tools for our boys' workshop, sowing machines and all kinds of games. Moreover, we received sponsor money from two ladies who made a journey around the world and who visited Mongolia. We are very grateful for all this.

Last summer we had a wonderful time with each other. A team from England came over to help us with summer camp. Our children enjoyed playing sport, doing games and had a special Bible program. Enthusiastically, they went home.

Unfortunately, we had our share of difficulties. The Mongolian government interferes more and more in the foreign organisations that offer help to children. They don't take into account the child's interest. This makes our work very laborious. Fortunately the inspection approved of our organisation for another year.

Fosterhome 1:
The flat has been renovated. The kitchen has been freshly painted and new carpets have been purchased.
Otgonjargal, our eldest girl, obtained a job and now lives together with 2 other girls in a ger on our haschaa. In this way they learn how to live on their own. Because this girl left our foster home we had room for another child. So we went to the identification centre of the police. Here the children are brought who have been found on the street. We left with a five-year-old boy. He had been living in this centre for the last 18 months. He never went outside. He had no shoes, no coat and hardly any other clothes. We immediately bought him the necessary clothes. He had a skin infection and he looked very sad. Now, he is doing much better and the other children are being very nice to him. One of them said: Now, we have got a little brother, haven't we?
Good news for Otgongerel! She had to go to a special school. Because she was doing so well she was able to go to a normal school last September.

Fosterhome 2:
Buena is a very gifted girl. She has got a beautiful singing voice and she loves to dance and to do gymnastics. Together with a girl from our haschaa she attends gymnastics classes. These two girls are not very good at school, therefore we think it is important to encourage them in those areas they do excel in.
Dorjoo, the youngest child in this foster home, is going to a special primary school. His development is lagging behind compared to the other children of his age. He is very proud now that he is actually learning how to read and write and he is really doing his utmost. He keeps showing his notebooks. He is the clown of the family.
Two other boys are going to a handcraft course and another boy goes to art classes.
Oyunerdene was very sad when she heard that her granddad had died. He was an alcoholic. These kinds of things are very hard to deal with for our children, even though they have no contact with their relatives.
Aruna is at university and is doing very well. She follows "tourism" courses.

Haschaa:
Our girls are doing well. Three of them are going to university and are studying seriously. One of the girls has finished a school for interior and decoration. She has now found a job in her profession. Another girl worked at a sewing workshop from morning till evening seven days a week. This was too much for her and now she makes felt slippers which are being sold. With this she earns her own money.

The staff:
We appreciate our Mongolian staff very much. Tsegi is our manager. She is good at it and during my absence I can leave everything in her hands with confidence. Odnoo is our social worker and responsible for the spiritual and physical development of our children. Jachaa is our accountant and can be trusted completed in everything she does.

Expenses:
In Mongolia everything has again become more expensive. Our monthly expenses have almost doubled the past two years. We are very grateful for the fact that we have always had enough.
Our children, however, do need new beds. They cost about 150 euro a piece.
Also this year we hope to celebrate Christmas with all our children. Everyone will receive a present and a set of new clothes. Would you please help us to make this happen?

Thank you very much for your support and for your prayers in the year 2007.
On behalf of Asian Foundation we wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
