Mongolia

Mongolia is situated in between Siberia and China. It is 45 times the size of Holland and has about 2.6 million inhabitants. Almost 1 million people live in the capital Ulaanbaatar.
In the countryside, most Mongolians live a nomadic life. They travel from one grazing place to another on the Steppes with their herds of horses, sheep, cows, yaks and goats.
These people live in so-called gers (tents covered with pieces of felt) and are especially known for their remarkable horse riding skills.
Mongolia has a continental climate. This means long, extremely cold winters and short, hot summers. In winter the temperature can drop to 30 to 40 degrees below zero.

Due to unemployment in the countryside, many people move to the capital Ulaanbaatar, hoping to find work there. Unfortunately unemployment is also high in Ulaanbaatar so the problems only increase when they move to the capital. Another major problem is alcoholism: consequently children don't go to school, are mistreated and quite often they live an uncertain life on the streets.
Asian Foundation in The Netherlands has been founded to offer help to these children. In Mongolia we work with the name Mongolian Children Foundation (MCF).

About Mongolian Children Foundation
MCF provides structural care for underprivileged children in Mongolia.
The Christian vision of MCF is the basis for all its activities.

Our projects
  • We provide housing and education for underprivileged children. MCF has 3 foster homes, each of which functions as a family for 6 children. The daily care of these children is in the hands of Mongolian foster parents.
  • We provide housing and education for teenage girls who have no accommodation themselves. MCF purchased a piece of land (haschaa) on which we built a house and on which we placed some gers (traditional felt tents). This is were our teenage girls live.
  • We also finance the education of poor children who do live with their own families, but are too poor to go to school.
  • We provide housing for homeless families in order to prevent their children from living a dangerous life on the streets. MCF also finances these children's education.

How do we work?
All the work in Holland is done by volunteers. Our projects are supported by monthly sponsors and through other donations.
All the money our foundation receives goes directly to the children in Mongolia!

Finances
For all its children, Asian Foundation Holland offers an individual sponsor plan. This means that all our children are supported through financial adoption.
All other gifts and donations are used for education, medical care, maintenance or the expansion of our projects.

Gifts are tax-deductible.
